Pahang and Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) continued their winning ways after both teams won on Tuesday night, emerging victors against PKNS FC (3-0) and Sarawak (0-2) respectively.
David Usop and Benjamin Mora both retained the same starting XI that saw won them 3 respective points at the weekend. That means, Mark Hartmann and Mateo Roskam continued their partnership up front for Sarawak. On the other side, Afiq Fazail, Azrif Nasrulhaq and Junior Eldstal stayed in the first 11 which meant that Amirulhadi Zainal, Fazly Mazlan and Aidil Zaquan all failed to regain their place.
JDT started brightly and got the opening goal as early as the 8th minute when Gonzalo Cabrera converted Safiq Rahim's free kick delivery to put the away side 0-1 up. The Argentine would go on to score his second of the match in the 70th minute but would fall short of replicating fellow his fellow countryman, Gabriel Guerra's hat-trick in the last match.
The win sees the Southern Tigers climb up to 3rd spot in the league, albeit for at least 24 hours before the commencement of four other matches on Wednesday night. The Crocs remained in 9th spot and are left still searching for their first league home win of the season.
Over in Kuantan, Dollah Salleh also did not make any changes to his starting XI, electing to leave the like of Kiko Insa and Chinedu Dike on the bench. As for E. Elavarasan, he brought in Matias Hadwa and M. Sivakumar hoping to see his team improve on their defence that was hung out to dry in last weekend's match against Sarawak.
Afif Amiruddin scored his first ever goal for Pahang since his move from Perlis during the close season. His strike in the 12th minute was not the kind of start that PKNS was hoping for in what was their second consecutive game in the rain.
Pahang would go on to exert their superiority in the second half when Matheus Alves converted a 58th minute penalty before Ashari Samsudin netted in the 69th minute to make it a comfortable 3-0 win for the Elephants. The three points gained sees Pahang go top of the table, 24 hours before Kedah take to the field against Selangor.
