Orlando Pirates coach Jonevret looking forward to his first Soweto Derby

The Buccaneers coach was appointed a week ago and he had his first match in charge of the team at home to Polokwane City on Saturday

Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret says he would have liked to go into Saturday’s Soweto Derby with Kaizer Chiefs on the back of a win.

“I would have liked to have gone into the derby on the back of a win. We made mistakes against City. At least I will have a week to work with them before the derby,” Jonevret said according to the Daily Sun.

The Swede guided Bucs took over the managerial duties following the abrupt departure of Turkish-born coach Muhsin Ertugral in November last year.

Jonevret is looking to iron out their errors such as those made against the Rise and Shine ahead of the much-anticipated derby.

“I will have more time with the players to be able to analyse the game and work on mistakes,” Jonevret said.

The Buccaneers came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with City, but it stretched their winless run to 10 matches in all competitions.

They last won a competitive game against Chippa United thanks to a Tendai Ndoro solitary goal.

“We missed chances to score, especially in the second half, where we created enough chances to have collected three points. But I think it will be easier for me this week,” Jonevret concluded.

The 54-year-old will be looking to join the likes of Jean Yves Kerjean, Ruud Krol and Julio Cesar Leal in recent times to win their first Soweto Derby games as Bucs coach.
