Okumbi reshuffles Harambee Stars squad again

Harambee Stars coach Stanley Okumbi has once again been forced to adjust the squad to face Malawi in a friendly on April 18.

Five new players in – Collins Odhiambo (Thika United), Fredrick Shimonyo (Western Stima), Geofrey Kataka (Posta Rangers), Daniel Mwaura (Mathare United) and Kennedy Agogo (Western Stima) – have been drafted into the side after a number of clubs refused to release players for the match.

A statement obtained by Goal has confirmed the changes with players from promoted side Kariobangi Sharks dominating the new look side. “Kindly note that names of players highlighted in yellow are new call ups necessitated by injuries and/or a section of clubs failing to release their players as the friendly, which is in preparation for 2018 Chan tournament falls outside of the Fifa window for international matches,” read the statement.

Malawi are scheduled to arrive in the country on Sunday (today) ahead of the friendly set for Machakos Stadium on Tuesday.

Goalkeepers: James Saruni (Ulinzi Stars) and Patrick Matasi (Posta Rangers).

Defenders: Simon Mbugua (Posta Rangers), Jockins  Atudo (Posta Rangers), Brian Birgen (Ulinzi Stars), Robinson Kamura (AFC Leopards), Pascal Ogweno (Kariobangi Sharks), Collins Odhiambo (Thika United) and Bolton Omwenga (Kariobangi Sharks).

Midfielders: Duncan Otieno (AFC Leopards), Victor Majid (Chemelil), Fredrick Shimonyo (Western Stima), Amos Asembeka (Sony Sugar), Geoffrey Kataka (Posta Rangers), Samuel Onyango (Ulinzi Stars), Shami Mwinyi (Thika United).

Strikers: Morven Otinya (Palos FC), Daniel Mwaura (Mathare United), Masita Masita (Nzoia Sugar), Chrispinus Onyango (KCB), Calvin Odongo (Kariobangi Sharks), Kennedy Agogo (Western Stima) and Darius Msagaha (Bandari).
