We should have won Gombe United, says Lobi Star's Okpotu

The Pride of Benue forward has stated that the solitary point gained against the Savannah Scorpions was not a true reflection of the game

Lobi Stars’ striker, Anthony Okpotu claims they were very close to picking three points in Sunday's draw against Gombe United.

Okpotu believes they gave a good account of themselves and played against the Savannah Scorpions with the determination to win to make up for their inability to pick the three points in their last home tie with Plateau United. But that they were undone by their misses.

“The single point we got is by no way harmful to our aspirations but we desired the three points which would have done our objective for the league season a boost. We attacked and played the better game all in our attempts to pick the three points,” Okpotu told Goal.

“We missed chances after chances and the woodwork was not our friends throughout the encounter. We could have won the game easily had the chances we had gone in.

“We have to return to our base and be optimistic of getting a good result against Abia Warriors. They will want to come all out because of their home draw in their game with FC IfeanyiUbah but we have to be at our best. Another unimpressive result will throw our league aspiration into tatters.”

The former Al Ittihad forward also explained why he only played the last 10 minutes of the tie against Gombe United.

“I had a little knock from our last game and I only came on in the second half to see how far I have recovered. I wouldn't have been able to play the entire full game without aggravating it.”
