The midfielder pointed out that the People’s Elephant could have grabbed a positive result in Uyo, but were overshadowed by a much better side

Enyimba's Dare Ojo says their inability to match Akwa United's intensity in the early stages of Sunday's encounter led to their loss.

The People's Elephants were undone in the 15th minute after Musa Newman connected well with a perfectly weighted cross by Friday Ubong to steer Abdu Maikaba's men to a 1-0 win at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

“It was a game we didn’t settle down quickly. Akwa United came into the match with a game plan and they started the match at a fast pace which unsettled us,” Ojo told Goal.

"They came at us very quickly and massively and it was the reason they got their goal and sat on it.

"We tried everything possible to even the scores but it was not to be. I believe we have learnt a lesson of trying to settle down as soon as the game starts.

"It was a painful lesson but I still believe we are on course for something greater at the end of the season. It is our desire to end the season in the top three so that we can play on the continent next season

The result saw rivals Akwa United displace Enyimba from the third spot with Gbenga Ogunbote's side now seventh with 41 points from 27 games.
