Remo Stars' Mbaoma reveals motivation vs. FC IfeanyiUbah

Victor Mbaoma says the need to bring joy back to their fans was enough to inspire him to conjure an equaliser against FC IfeanyiUbah on Tuesday.

The Sagamu side have been beaten thrice at home this season by Plateau United, Niger Tornadoes and Enyimba. And were on the verge of another defeat after being pegged by a Godwin Obaje opener.

It took the intervention of the Sky Blues Stars captain via a thunderous free kick, to restore the pride of Fatai Osho's side.

“It was written all over me that I was desperate for us not to lose again at home and when they got the first goal I said to myself that not again will we lose this game. When I was presented with the chance to try and level from the free kick I tried as much as possible to hit the target and fortunately I was able to score,” Mbaoma told Goal.

“It was not a good sight to behold at the stadium immediately we conceded the goal scored very late in the game [80th minute] and the only way to respond was to find the equaliser as quick as possible. The equaliser brought back joy to our fans and the players and we even wanted to get the winning goal if not for our inability to convert the few chances that came our way.”

Mbaoma has scored 10 goals in his debut season in the topflight but Remo Stars are still bottom of the league table with 28 points from 28 matches. In their next topflight encounter, they play away to Lobi Stars in Makurdi on Sunday.
