The Ikon Allah Boys’ player has expressed happiness at their qualification for the semi final of the competition with FC Ifeanyiubah ahead.

Niger Tornadoes’ defender, Reuben Ogbonnaya has asserted that they went into the return leg of their Federation Cup quarter final tie with Plateau United played on Sunday with the conviction that they will do the needful that will take them to the next round of the competition.

The second leg tie was initially billed for Saturday at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos but a downpour forced the game to be postponed till Sunday and Ogbonnaya who played the full 90 minutes in the return leg tie stated that they came with a strategy to unsettle the league champions and that they were delighted they achieved their objective.

“We went to Jos with the determination to surprise our opponents. We knew they would come at us immediately the game started and it was actually what they did and after we were able to survive that early storm. It was after this we brought ourselves into the game and scored those two goals that helped us to stabilize,” Ogbonnaya told Goal.

“The two goals helped us to go into the second half with the believe that it will be difficult for them to stage a comeback. We held on and even though they scored two goals of theirs to level the tie, we knew that won’t be sufficient for them to go through.

“We are aware that FC ifeanyiubah are the defending champions and are a also a tough side. We have the advantage that we are playing them at home first. We will use it to our advantage before the return leg,” he concluded.

Tornadoes led 2-0 after the end of the first half through the goals of Ibrahim Babawo and Isa Hussein before Bature Yaro’s two goals for Plateau United in the second half restoring parity for the league champions but they bowed out of the competition 2-4 on aggregate as the Ikon Allah Boys progressed to the semi final.
