Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez admits he would welcome the opportunity to link up with Barcelona at some stage.

Having been snapped up from Atletico Nacional in June 2016, the Colombian centre-half has enjoyed a productive 12 months in Amsterdam.

He has been unable to help Ajax to Eredivisie or Europa League success, but is now one of the most sought-after talents in Europe and a man prepared to acknowledge that a switch to Camp Nou would be difficult to turn down.

Pressed on the rumours by Cadena SER, Sanchez said: "Obviously I would like to play for Barcelona.

"It is a huge compliment [to be linked with them]. Who doesn't want to play for a club as big as Barca?

"Everyone wants to be part of a team like that, they're one of the world's elite."

Sanchez is, however, tied to a contract at Ajax until 2021 and insists he will remain fully focused on events there until a formal approach for his services is made.

He added: "I want to be clear that right now I am completely focused on Ajax.”

Sanchez made 45 appearances for Ajax across the 2016-17 campaign, netting six goals.
