Nyirenda disappointed with Macha’s removal from Kaizer Chiefs

The Zambian striker is one of seven players transfer-listed by Amakhosi this week

Legendary Kaizer Chiefs striker Wedson Nyirenda says Lewis Macha struggled to adapt to the club’s style of play after starting the season like a house on fire by scoring against rivals Orlando Pirates.

“I think he did not adapt quickly to Kaizer Chiefs style of play. I remember watching his first game against Pirates in the (Carling) Black Label Cup where he scored that header and then I thought he was confident,” Nyirenda told SABC Sport.

Nyirenda, who is now the coach of the Zambian national side, believes the injury Macha suffered during the season also affected his progress.

“I think when he got that injury it forced him to be out of action for a long time and he did not come back (in form). When he returned, his teammates (in the striking department) had picked up their game so it was very difficult for him to match their pace,” Nyirenda said.

Macha managed to make only a total of six appearances, four coming in the PSL and he failed to score any official goal

“The player is a very good player. He was my player in Mozambique. He did not account for himself very well so we cannot blame anybody. He had his chance and did not do much because Kaizer Chiefs demands a lot from players,” said.

“I played for Kaizer Chiefs. There is too much demand and it’s a big team so you have to prepare yourself and work hard. It’s unfortunate the boy’s contract has been terminated, I feel for him, but we will see if he can get something else (a new team),” Nyirenda concluded.
