NSL: Vihiga United stun Ushuru to go top

Vihiga United ascended to the summit of the lower league after seeing of the taxmen while Wazito dropped vital points

Three matches were played on Wednesday in the National Super League across two venues.

The highly anticipated match was between Ushuru FC and Vihiga United at Camp Toyoyo. Both sides were aiming at getting on top of the table; it was the visitors, who started well, going ahead early in the first half courtesy of Charles Okwemba, who turned in a Christopher Masinza low cross.

It was 2-0 in the 43rd minute when defensive lapses allowed Kephas Mutuu to sneak in, and made no mistake from twelve yards. But Ushuru halved the score a few minutes to half time courtesy of Andrew Murunga.

WIth about fifteen minutes to time, Ushuru thought they have stolen a point after Lwamba Bebeto headed in the equalizer, but once again, miscommunication in defense gave Masinza an opportunity to score the winner and send his team on top of the table with 41 points, two more than Nairobi Stima.

Earlier in the same venue, Wazito suffered a 1-0 defeat against Police FC. The visitors needed a controversial Wamalwa Douglas penalty to bag maximum points after Kevin Omondi was allegedly fouled. At Kipchoge Keino, Eldoret, visitors Kibera Black Stars defeated hosts GFE 105 by the same margin.
