Modern Coast Rangers’ poor run in second tier National Super League continued after they went down 0-2 to Nairobi Stima in a match played at KPA Mbaraki Sports Club.

Having lost two previous matches, Rangers were under pressure and a defensive lapse in the 26th minute enabled John Kangethe to put the visitors in lead. Stima goalkeper Daniel Opondo saved an effort by Francis Ochola in the 36th minute from a goal mouth melee. Another effort by Ochola went off target two minutes later after he headed out a cross from Athman Bori.

Stima regained composure and went offensive in the second stanza and in the 48th Vincent Odong’s long range drive outside the box was misjudged by keeper Suleiman Anthony for a second goal. After the score, Odongo was rested for Brian Musa. Five minutes later, Athman Bori was cautioned for dangerous tackle on Ivan Amonyo.

Rangers keeper Suleiman Anthony was called upon to save a header from Victor Omune in the 63rd minute. Rangers coach Mohaa made changes introducing Francis Omondi for Ramadhan Kambu. His counterpart at Stima replaced Patrick Mugendi for Joseph Abrico.

Rangers made further changes pulling out Athman Bori and introducing Bakari Kimra. Stima on the other hand brought in Stamsy Omanyo for Anthony Oginga. In the 82nd minute, Stima keeper David Opondo saved a long range drive from Leroy Buko.

Two minutes later, the hosts pulled out Abdalla Mzee and brought in Collins Ouma but the changes did not pay any dividends. The defeat is the third consecutive one for Rangers, who lost to Police and Isibania with identical 1-0 result last Saturday and Monday.

After playing nine matches, Rangers are placed 12th position on the 19 team NSL log with 11 points, eight below leaders Wazito. Rangers will face St.Josephs in their next league match at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru on Monday.
