Nakumatt keen to change name to attract sponsors

Nakumatt FC are contemplating to change the name so as to attract a sponsor, Goal can exclusively reveal.

A number of Kenyan Premier League clubs are currently going through hard times after sponsors SportPesa withdrew last January. Goal understands, KPL are yet to pay grants to clubs, a decision that has forced many to struggle in honouring weekend league matches.

Nakumatt are not spared neither as they are undergoing tough economic times, following tribulations faced by their main sponsors Nakumatt Supermarket. The team has not been training regularly with players having to wait for their salaries and allowances.

A close source within the club has revealed that the team is on the lookout for a new sponsor, and is even ready to make a couple of changes to secure one. “Right now we are looking for new sponsors; you all know what we are going through.

“Our main sponsors Nakumatt have given us a go ahead, but they will continue supporting us until we get one. We are so desperate in that we are ready to change the name to attract a new sponsor.

“It has not been a good period for us, we are badly struggling, and we are appealing for help.”

Nakumatt has recorded six points from first five matches after registering one win, three draws and a single defeat.
