'Martial is the only player I've fined! - Mourinho reveals punishment for Man Utd outcast

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he fined Anthony Martial, saying he is the only player he has sanctioned since his arrival at Manchester United.

The French winger has had a difficult time at Old Trafford since the Portuguese replaced Louis van Gaal at the helm in 2016 and tensions seemed to increase over the close season.

Martial has been linked with a move away from United for some time and his agent stated in June that he wants to leave the club , but Mourinho suggested he would not be allowed to leave .

The coach then seemed to question Martial's decision to leave their pre-season tour of the United States early to attend the birth of his child, drawing a response from the forward . 

The former Monaco star was then left on the bench as his side started their Premier League campaign against Leicester City last week, but Mourinho said he would have brought him if he had been able to make more changes .

But it seems the issues between the two stretch further than first thought, as Mourinho admitted he has had to single Martial out for punishment.

Although he did not go into details on when or why he fined the 22-year-old, he suggested it was for something serious.

"I'm here for two years and a couple of months and the only player that was fined was Anthony Martial, so it is not easy to be fined here," he told reporters on Friday.

Mourinho was responding to questions about Paul Pogba after recent reports that he is unhappy and wants to leave United for Barcelona, who ruled out a move for the France star this week .

Pogba was recently asked by reporters about how he feels at the club, and responded : "There are things I can say and there are things that I cannot say, otherwise I will get fined."

However, Mourinho clarified on Friday that he is pleased with the midfielder .

"I've never been so happy with him as I am now. That's the truth," he said. "I cannot demand more from him, I cannot ask more from him."
