Mokoena: Why Lorch is better than Orlando Pirates fan-favourites Qalinge and Rakhale

Goal spoke to the former Bucs dribbling wizard about Lorch's impact at the Soweto giants

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder William 'Naughty' Mokoena has lauded Thembinkosi Lorch, who has hit the ground running at the Soweto giants since returning from loan at Chippa United in January 2017.

The 23-year-old winger Lorch has been able to cement his place in the Bucs starting line-up under the guidance of Swedish tactician Kjell Jonevret.

Former Bafana Bafana international Mokoena, who played for Pirates as an attacking midfielder in the late 90's, feels that Lorch should be preferred ahead of fellow wingers Thabo Qalinge and Thabo Rakhale.

"I am quite impressed by Thembinkosi, who is playing without any fear, while taking on the defenders," Mokoena told Goal.

Rakhale and Qalinge, who are Bucs fan-favourites, are expected to return from their long-term injuries which they suffered midway through the current campaign.

"He shows determination in almost every match that he plays for Pirates. I don't think it will be easy for Qalinge and Rakhale to regain their places in the team," he said.

"I am saying this because Thembinkosi is more hungry than them and he's improving with each game that he plays for the team," Lorch continued.

"So, it would be wise for the coach to continue playing Thembinkosi as one of his wingers because he's always making good forward runs," he added.

"He creates goalscoring chances and he also has an eye for goals. That's what you need from a good winger. He deserves to be playing regularly," Mokoena concluded.

Lorch has made 10 appearances for the Buccaneers in all competitions - netting twice against SuperSport United and Free State Stars.
