Modiba: I'm not competing with Masango at SuperSport United

Modiba has stated that he welcomes the introduction of the 27-year-old and hopes to learn from him at Matsatsantsa

SuperSport United winger Aubrey Modiba has only been at the club since the beginning of the 2016/2017 campaign.

Matsatsantsa signed Bafana Bafana international Mandla Masango during the January transfer window and their star signing could be seen as a threat to the former Cape Town City player.

“I’m in no competition with Masango or any other player in the team,” Modiba told Pretoria News.

“I welcome his arrival with open arms. He’s been overseas. He knows what he’s doing. I look up to him," he said.

“I’ve also been asking him a whole lot of questions, with regard to how I can improve my game. He’s been very helpful," Modiba continued.

The 21-year-old also expressed his desire to follow in Masango’s footsteps and move abroad, but for now he is willing to work harder as he hopes to solidify his position in Stuart Baxter’s starting eleven.

“My ambition is to play overseas. He’s been there and so the plan is to continue learning from him, work harder and play wherever the coach wants me to play. I’m flexible,” Modiba said.

SuperSport are set to take on Free State Stars tonight and Modiba believes every game is a must win for the Tshwane-outfit as they hope to remain in title contention.

“Of course every match is a must-win for us. It’s not going to be easy, though.

“We’ve got teams like (Kaizer) Chiefs, Cape Town City, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits, who are doing well in their respective campaigns. We have to keep up. We cannot afford to drop any points at this stage of the season,” Modiba concluded.
