Michael Ibe: Why Wikki Tourist lost to Akwa United

Akwa United’s Michael Ibe has pointed out that Wikki Tourists were a good match for his side but that they capitalized on their visitors' tiredness in the second half to record the emphatic 4-0 win in their Nigeria Professional Football League tie played on Sunday in Uyo.

The Promise Keepers recorded their biggest win of the season against the Giant Elephants at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium but they were only a goal up at halftime and Ibe confessed that it was because of Wikki Tourists’ good display in the first half that was responsible for the low scoreline.

“We won the game 4-0 after matching Wikki's first-half performance in the second half, it would have been difficult for us to score up to two goals. They were very good in the first half and were not even afraid to come to our goal area,” Ibe told Goal.

“I guess they were tired in the second half and we used this to get few more goals. It was an all-round impressive performance from the team and I am happy that I contributed to that happiness with a goal to make it three goals in the last four games.

“We have picked up at the right time and we are expecting a good display against our Caf Confederation Cup foes next week,” he added.

Ibe is the club’ssecond-leadingg scorer behind Victor Mbaoma who is on four goals in the league.
