Hugo Lloris believes Harry Kane is already as good a player as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The Tottenham star set a new record for Premier League goals in a year when he ended 2017 with a hat-trick against Southampton on Boxing Day, taking his tally in the English top flight to 39.
Only Messi and Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani scored more for their clubs in the last 12 months than Kane did, and his latest achievement prompted many to hail the England international as one of the world's best attackers.
Messi and Ronaldo have both been at the pinnacle of the world game for over a decade, having won five Ballons d'Or each, and the 24-year-old striker himself believes he still has "a long way to go" to develop into a player of their calibre.
However, his Spurs team-mate and captain is sure the Premier League's top goalscorer for each of the last two seasons is already on a par with the Barcelona and Real Madrid stars.
"With players like Messi and Ronaldo it’s difficult to catch them. But Harry is by the side of them and he is still young," he told The Telegraph.
“He has his head on his shoulders and he has a lot of humility and that’s the key.
"I’ve never played with a striker capable of scoring so many goals in a year. I played with a lot of top strikers and probably he is the best.”
Lloris is just the latest voice to insist Kane is on the level of one of the best around, as Alan Shearer, whose record he broke this month, says he would be a star for either of the Clasico sides, after Lothar Matthaus claimed he would walk into any team in Europe and keep scoring.
