Benjamin Mendy trained with Manchester City for the first time after his £52 million signing.

The left-back became the most expensive defender in history when he joined from Monaco this summer, but is yet to feature for Pep Guardiola's side due to a thigh injury.

He was City's only big new signing to miss out on a Premier League debut appearance in Saturday's 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 23-year-old took a step towards making his first appearance when he started working with his team-mates on Monday during their training camp in Catalonia. 

City are set to take on newly-promoted La Liga side Girona in a friendly on Tuesday.

Mendy signed a six-year contract with City when he joined from Monaco, having made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 champions.
