While leaders Wafa were not in action this weekend as Aduana Stars picked crucial points at home, Asante Kotoko overtook rivals Hearts of Oak on the log on matchday 21 of the Ghana Premier League.
Wafa contribute about seven players to Ghana's home-based side who are currently in Togo for an international friendly, and this apparently necessitated the postponement of their clash with Ashanti Gold.
With the Academy Boys sitting three points clear at the top ahead of the matchday, second-placed Aduana have now equalled Klavs Rasmussen's outfit on points following a 2-1 home victory over Liberty Professionals. Bright Adjei scored to add to Sam Adams' penalty while Bernard Arthur fetched the Scientific Soccer Lads' consolation.
Wafa only still occupy the top position because of a better goal record.
Elsewhere, Asante Kotoko have claimed the third position following a 3-1 home win over Medeama. Evans Quao, Ahmed Adams and Sadick Adams were on target for the Porcupine Warriors at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as Bismarck Oppong got the visitors' consolation.
Hearts, on the other hand, have moved a place down to the fourth spot after their 1-0 away defeat at Bechem United. Amed Toure's 70th minute penalty was the separating factor.
Ebusua Dwarfs lie on fifth position following their 2-1 away win over Tema Youth in Saturday's only game. Goals from Nicholas Gyan and Joseph Esso powered the Crabs to victory. Tawfiq Mohammed got the home team's only goal.
Sixth-placed Inter Allies, meanwhile, were held to a 1-1 draw at Berekum Chelsea. Abdul Nassiru Hamzah secured the Eleven-Is-To-One a point in the 67th minute after Alfred Okai Quaye put the home side in front in the 51st minute.
The plight of reigning champions Wa All Stars has been shocking, and on Sunday, the Northern Blues were condemned to their eighth defeat of the season by relegation-trapped Great Olympics. Benjamin Arthur and Cofie Bekoe netted to hand the 'Dade' Boys a 2-0 win at the Accra Sports Stadium.
At the Nduom Stadium, Elmina Sharks did their relegation battle a lot of good with a 3-1 triumph over fellow new boys Bolga All Stars. Eric Osei, Felix Addo and Benjamin Tweneboah ensured three points for the home side as Latif Abubakari registered the consolation for the bottom-placed club.
