Masinga: There will be less pressure on Steven Pienaar

Comments
Pienaar parted ways with Sunderland last month, Goal spoke to Masinga on whether the midfielder still has what it takes to shine at the highest level

Former Bafana Bafana striker Phil Masinga believes Steven Pienaar would do well in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) as there will be less pressure on him compared to Europe.

The 35-year-old joined Bidvest Wits on Wednesday, ending speculation over his immediate future.

"I wouldn't choose specifically for him where to go, that is up to the player himself. You know whenever you go and join a team especially someone like Pienaar, you would want to go and add value and make a difference," Masinga told Goal.

Pienaar was heavily linked with a possible move Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City, before the Students announced him as their player.

"I think with at his age and the years that he has played in Europe, people won't be expecting a lot from him because age is not on his side anymore," he said.

"I still believe with the knowledge that he can help make a difference at any team," Masinga concluded.
