But much will depend on their results against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea in the next three games.

MAN CITY INJURIES

Fatigue will be an issue following Wednesday's defeat in the south of France. City stayed in Monaco to train on Thursday morning and returned back to Manchester later that afternoon.

Pep Guardiola picked close to his strongest team in midweek and will have to call on many of the same players again, which could be an issue given Liverpool last played on Sunday.

Vincent Kompany is fit but his role in Guardiola's plans is unknown and he will almost certainly not start, though he could be on the bench.

Gabriel Jesus and Ilkay Gundogan are still out injured.

MAN CITY SUSPENSIONS

Neither City nor Liverpool have any suspensions.

Yaya Toure is a contender to come back into the side, possibly for Kevin De Bruyne, who has looked tired of late, though Guardiola elected to keep the Ivorian out of the fast-paced game against Monaco and may decide the same course of action is needed against Liverpool.

The team as a whole will be largely unchanged. Pablo Zabaleta may come in at right-back, and Guardiola may as ever make a change in the centre of defence, but he will want to win this game and pick a strong as team as possible in City's last game before the international break.

LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS

Jordan Henderson is out with a foot inury and Daniel Sturridge will miss the game with a hip complaint.

Dejan Lovren played 75 minutes for the U23s on Monday and Roberto Firmino is back in training but if he does not start then Divock Origi will line up at the head of the attack.

Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip could continue at centre-back if Lovren does not make it, while Emre Can will sit at the base of midfield, alongside Gini Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana, with Henderson out.

Jurgen Klopp's side have been inconsistent this season and have generally been in poor form since the turn of the year, but have played at their best against their top four rivals.
