Masandawana are hoping to retain the services of their veteran keeper, who is currently out of contract

Mamelodi Sundowns are still keen on keeping Wayne Sandilands at the club despite the goalkeeper being out of contract.

Masandawana failed to tie down Sandilands during the 2016/2017 Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign, which led to much speculation surrounding his future. According to the latest reports, Maritzburg United could still be plotting a swoop for the player.

However, Sundowns confirmed that they are not giving up hope on retaining the 33-year-old’s services and they are currently still in negotiations with the player.

“He is still with the club and we are still in negotiations,” Sundowns media officer Thulani Thuswa told Goal.

Due to Sandilands being out of contract, he was not part of the team which travelled to Ethiopia for their crunch Caf Champions League encounter, but the Brazilians are positive that a deal would be struck soon.

Sandilands has been a long serving member of the club after making the move from Platinum Stars in 2009. But he has found game time difficult to come by of late with the impressive form of Denis Onyango limiting his chances.

Although, Sundowns are keen on the Bafana Bafana international, the ball is firmly in Sandilands court with him being a free agent.
