Ahead of the second stretch of the 2017 Malaysian football season, Felda United head coach Bhaskaran R Sathianathan has reiterated his target for the Fighters in the Malaysia Cup.

He told Harian Metro that he wants the team to focus on Malaysia Cup, which kicks off next Tuesday, and go as far as they can in the competition.

"I want Felda to go as far as we can in the Malaysia Cup. Although our chances of reaching beyond [the group stage] are good, we can't be overconfident.

"After making a number of changes, especially the signing of new foreign players, I hope we are now more formidable and are capable of lifting the trophy," Sathianathan explained.

This Saturday Felda will host Pahang, resuming their Super League campaign from the seventh position.

And on Tuesday, they will face Premier League side Kuala Lumpur at home in their Malaysia Cup group stage opener. They have been drawn in Group B in this year's edition of the competition, alongside PKNS FC and Perak, as well as Kuala Lumpur.

The Fighters have done relatively well in the cup in recent years. Last year they reached the quarter-finals, while in 2014 and 2015 they made it as far as the semis.
