The league leaders failed to claim two successive wins following a goalless draw against relegation-threatened Liberty Professionals on Friday

Wafa missed the chance to move six points clear at the top of the Ghana Premier League log as they shared the spoils goalless with Liberty Professionals at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman on Friday.

With Aduana's game against Asante Kotoko scheduled for Monday, the door was left open for Wafa to extend their lead.

While Liberty's captain Samuel Sarfo is currently away in Kumasi as Ghana prepare to play Ethiopia in the 2019 Afcon qualifiers, head coach Michael Osei had to rely on Gerald Arkson to bring stability to his side.

Liberty’s threat came early in the meeting when Ernest Papa Arko raced onto a pass by the sixth minute from Richard Kissi Boateng before shooting a weak effort at goalkeeper Razak Abalora.

The visitors failed to recognise the warning signs from Liberty and allowed Frederick Ansah to make another move up field, but the host's midfielder fired wide.

With the game approaching the break, Wafa's attackers were fast out of the blocks, as Majeed Ashimeru combined with Emmanuel Boateng in a quick counter-attack but the latter's shot was saved.

On 48th minute, Liberty took charge of the midfield, tormenting Wafa box but coming short of breaking down the visitors' defence.

By the hour mark, Brite Andoh and Bernard Arthur were introduced to strengthen the hosts attacking line. Wafa looked more dangerous however, opting for counters to break the deadlock.

As the clock wound down, Liberty coach Osei ordered his men forward, switching from a 4-4-2 formation to 3-4-3 but they failed to grab the few chances that came their way.

Simon Zibo had a clear view of the post on 90th minute but could only direct his effort wide before Andoh's volley in additional time was saved by goalkeeper Abalora.

Wafa are still on top with 36 points, three above Aduana, while Liberty sit 12th position with 20 points, one point away from safety.
