Laffor is becoming a big-match player for Sundowns, especially in the Caf Champions League, but he says he's just doing what the club expects from him

Anthony Laffor came off the bench to net a late equalizer which saw Mamelodi Sundowns beat Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) 3-2 on aggregate and book their spot in the group stages of the Caf Champions League.

The 32-year-old played down the importance of his goal and credited his teammates for their success.

“It’s not about me,” Laffor told SunSport.

“We won as a team. We knew it would be hard (after 2-1 defeat at home in the first leg), but we showed spirit and character,” he said.

“We knew as African champions we had to progress and we had to fight for it. Even when we went a goal down we kept our composure. We showed that hunger to go through. As African champs, we could not fail,” Laffor added.

Laffor also expressed that his decisive goal was way of thanking the club for having faith in him.

“I knew we would only get one chance to score and we took it,” he said.

“When the coaches asked me if I was ready to come on I said, 'yes, I’m ready'. My aim is always to work hard for Sundowns. They look after me and my family, and this is the best way to repay them.”

The winger went on to praise young forward Percy tau, who has been entrusted to lead the attack in the absence of Khama Billiat.

“Percy(Tau) has incredible hunger and is willing to learn. I encourage him. I tell him not to get frustrated when he doesn’t score, goals will come,” Laffor concluded.
