Kotoko's Ablordey blames referee after Hearts defeat

The Porcupine Warriors assistant coach claims the referee made a wrong decision during the Super Clash on Sunday

Asante Kotoko assistant coach Godwin Ablordey was scathing of referee Samuel Sukah, labelling his performance as a ‘joke’ after the club's unbeaten run this season came to an end against Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Ablordey claims Kotoko were denied a penalty in the 1-0 defeat, insisting that the 83rd minute penalty which was rather awarded to Hearts and transformed by Vincent Atinga was a big cheat.

“Referee Sukah was a joke because his performance was terrible. I have watched the replays of the penalty awarded to Hearts. It wasn’t a penalty. How referees are officiating in Ghana Premier League, they will always take our game back,” Ablordey said.

“We dominated Hearts throughout the game and were fighting for the winner before the surprise penalty arrived. He was not fair to us at all. Anyone who watched the game will agree with me that we played better than Hearts and we were cheated,” he said.

He added: “I am even surprised Joseph Lamptey was the fourth referee. This is a man who went to South Africa to officiate, a ball hit a player in the thigh and he awarded a penalty. He was handed a three months ban and here he is on the touchline in such a big game.

“I want everyone to go and watch the ball again. If it is a penalty, fair enough but if it is not, we all know the kind of referees we have.”

Hearts have moved five places up to sixth position with 12 points, while Kotoko are second on the log, tied on same points with leaders Aduana Stars.
