Kotoko confirm Akakpo Patron as Polack's assistant

Asante Kotoko have confirmed the signing of former defender Raphael Akakpo Patron as assistant coach of the club to assist Steve Polack in a two-year deal ahead of the new season.

The 40-year-old joined the FA Cup champions after almost a decade at Wafa and will replace Godwin Ablordey, who has been reassigned to the role of team manager as the club prepares for the new season.

"Asante Kotoko SC is delighted to announce the appointment of ex-player of the Fabulous Club, Raphael Akakpo Patron as the new assistant coach to Steve Polack," a club statement read.

"Akakpo penned a two year contract with the FA Cup champions and is expected to assist Polack in achieving set targets for Kotoko," the statement added.

Goal understands that Akakpo has finally moved to Kumasi with his family and his first competitive game will be against Hearts of Oak in the second leg of the Ghana @60 Cup at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Former Kotoko midfielder and 1978 African Player of the Year Abdul Razak is expected to be confirmed as the new technical director, according to reports in the local media.
