Asante Kotoko continued their winless run in the Ghana Premier League as they shared the spoils 1-1 with Aduana Stars on matchday 13 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
Sam Adams scored the opening goal very early in the game before substitute Abass Mohammed equalised in the second-half for the hosts after Kwame Boateng missed a penalty.
Kotoko caretaker Frimpong Manso, who was playing his first league game, made several changes to the side that defeated BYF Academy in the FA Cup. Kwame Boateng and Obed Owusu led the attack as Yakubu Mohammed and Abass Mohammed made way.
The visitors had the better part of the opening 15 minutes, causing troubles for Kotoko defence. Derrick Sasraku found a breach in Kotoko's backline after connecting Zakaria Mumuni's pass but his effort was flagged offside by assistant referee Badiu Ibrahim.
However, Aduana finally got the opener on 20th minute through Sam Adams, to silence the home supporters. The midfielder calmly tapped into the empty net from a rebound, after Nathaniel Asamoah's shot was saved by goalkeeper Felix Annan.
Five minutes later, Kotoko were rewarded a penalty after Elvis Opoku blocked Michael Akuffo's short with his hand in the box. However, Kwame Boateng's resulting kick was saved by goalkeeper Joseph Addo. The missed penalty is the second in two games after Abeiku Ainooson also missed one against Wa All Stars a fortnight ago.
On 35th minute, Asamoah had a one-on-one opportunity against onrushing goalkeeper Annan, to double the scoreline for the visitors but saw his effort beyond the goal post.
After the break, Kotoko brought on Abass for Boateng and the substitute scored with his first touch on 47th minute. Emmanuel Gyamfi was brought down outside Aduana's box and Abass Mohammed sent the resulting free-kick beyond the reach of goalkeeper Joseph Addo, who was facing his former club.
Aduana brought on Tanko Mohammed for Sasraku while the hosts responded with Frank Sarfo Gyamfi coming on for Baba Mahama.
Zakaria Mumuni had the last chance of the game to win the maximum points for the visitors but the midfielder wasted his last ditch effort.
Kotoko have dropped one place to fifth position with 20 points while, Aduana maintain their second spot but are three points behind leaders Wafa, who have amassed 29 points.
Kotoko travel to Accra to face Great Olympics while Aduana welcome Berekum Chelsea to Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo derby.
