Klopp urges Liverpool youngsters to emulate Ejaria

The starlet got into the senior set-up after impressing on the Island and the German tactician said fellow young Reds must see him as a role model

Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool youngsters to emulate Ovie Ejaria to make it to the main team at Anfield.

The Kops Academy players are in Tenerife alongside the senior squad and will be given an opportunity to impress the German handler.

Last March, on a trip to the same Island, the 19-year-old's ability caught the attention of Klopp who claimed he saw the attacking midfielder for the first time at the training camp.

Since then the English-born Nigerian has gone on to make several senior team appearance and U-18 and U-23 youngsters have been urged to put in a decent shift to get the chance to rub shoulders with Philippe Coutinho and the likes.

“I told the boys before the session [on Tuesday] that last year, Ovie Ejaria came onto my plate, if you want,” Klopp told club website.

“I saw him here first. I knew him, I saw him playing a few times, but here having him around for four days and seeing him in small spaces in the sessions against the ‘adults’ if you want was very important for him and for me.

“It’s an opportunity. You can see in their eyes they know it; they are really ambitious when they think about the sessions and we will try to do everything we can to give them the opportunity to impress.

“There’s no doubt about the attitude, there’s no doubt about quality – it’s only a question of are they already ready or not? If not, then they still have time. If yes, then let’s make the next step.”
