Nigeria international Kalu Uche got his side’s first goal as they secured a 2-1 home win against Sevilla Atletico on Sunday.
The 34-year-old began as a substitute in last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Cordoba, but against Atletico he emerged to stake his claim to be handed a starter’s shirt by manager Luis Miguel Ramis by scoring the curtain raiser in the 25th minute.
Uche profited from a moment of carelessness from the visitors backline to tuck Quique González’s cross past goalkeeper Churippi.
24' Motta para @G9Quique, la para, la guarda y la pone para Kalu Uche, parece imposible, pero no para él, saca la diestra...¡GOOOOOOOOOOOOL! pic.twitter.com/qjfkJaW9wo — UD Almería (@U_D_Almeria) April 23, 2017
Fidel Chaves powered in the second goal for the hosts but Jose Angel Carrillo got one back for Sevilla Atletico in the last minute of the encounter.
Even with the victory, Uche’s team remain in the relegation waters with 39 points from 25 games.
Almeria travel to Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero on April 29 for their game against Elche.
