Kaizer Chiefs would engage Sundowns if there was a need to sign Khama Billiat - Bobby Motaung

The 27-year-old is yet to renew his contract with the Brazilians, and according to reports, he could be plotting a move to Naturena in the new season

Football manager Bobby Motaung has responded to reports that Kaizer Chiefs are interested in signing Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Khama Billiat

With Billiat's contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign, reports suggest that Amakhosi are making efforts to lure the Zimbabwean star to Naturena.

However, Motaung said they would have engaged Sundowns by now if Chiefs were in need of Billiat's services without trying to sign him on a free transfer.

"Khama is a Sundowns player and if there was any need to sign him, we would do what the same way we did with (Leonardo) Castro. We engaged Sundowns for the player (Castro)," Motaung told the media.

"At Chiefs, we engage clubs for all our needs. We don’t wait or hide in the corner," he said.

"Billiat is an excellent player that everyone would want to have in their team, but let's respect the fact that he's a Sundowns player," added Motaung.

Billiat remains one of the integral members of Pitso Mosimane's team, but as things stand, he appears likely to leave Chloorkop at the end of the current season.

He has been linked with a possible move to Europe, while Wydad Casablanca are also reported to be keen on his services.
