Kaizer Chiefs join Orlando Pirates in race for Bidvest Wits star Shongwe

Shongwe, who is yet to make a PSL appearance for the Clever Boys this season, is said to be on the radar of the two Soweto giants

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly joined their rivals Orlando Pirates in the race for Bidvest Wits central midfielder Jabulani Shongwe.

The left-footed midfielder has fallen out of favour since the arrival of Thabang Monare at beginning of the current 2016/17 campaign.

Pirates have been linked with Shongwe since last year and they may have to compete with their rivals Chiefs for the player's signature.

This is according to The Citizen sources, who claim that Amakhosi are looking to lure the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder to the club next season.

“We all know what Shongwe is capable of. He is not playing at Wits because maybe the style the coach is using doesn’t suit him that well," said a source.

"I have asked about his availability and will be looking to bring him to Naturena next season,” a source added.

“Pirates have also been sniffing around on Jabu’s situation,” said another source.

The former South Africa international joined the Clever Boys from Sundowns in 2014 and he has made 65 PSL appearances for the Johannesburg side.
