Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Khuzwayo ruled out for the season

Khuzwayo injured his ankle three weeks ago against Stellenbosch FC, and he is only expected to return to action at the start of next season

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo has been ruled out for the remainder of the Premier Soccer League season following a successful ankle surgery.

This was confirmed by head coach Steve Komphela on Thursday afternoon as he was addressing the media ahead of this weekend's Nedbank Cup clash away to Acornbush United.

"Khuzwayo is definitely out for this game and the rest of the season. He will be out for 11 weeks out following the ankle operation," Komphela told the media.

The South Africa international is expected to start rehabilitation in the next six weeks, and has been given given some time off by the club.

The injury to Khuzwayo forced Amakhosi to promote Bruce Bvuma from the club's academy.

Apart from Itumeleng Khune, Komphela still has Luthando Sixhaso as one of his goalkeepers available for the rest of the season.

However, the lanky shot-stopper is inexperienced as he hasn't featured in any of the club's official matches.

This may see Khune play the remaining matches of the current campaign, especially with Chiefs desperate of ending their trophy drought.

The Soweto giants are still in the title race, and they're also looking to win the Nedbank Cup.
