Juventus v Barcelona: Tense first half as Champions League knockout stage draws closer

Barca's only away goal in the tournament so far has been an own goal, and we think it could be a tight opening 45 minutes in Turin on Wednesday

Barcelona's stunning start to the season continued at the weekend in La Liga where once more they recorded a comfortable victory without really impressing.

The Catalans ran out 3-0 winners at Leganes to make it 11 wins and a draw from their opening 12 league fixtures, while in Europe they have won three and drawn one of their matches in Group D.

It means Ernesto Valverde's men need just a point on Wednesday evening in Turin to secure their place in the last 16 and they will be confident of claiming a positive result against a Juve side they beat 3-0 at the Camp Nou back in September.

The Italians, for their part, lost at the weekend 3-2 at Sampdoria with manager Max Allegri's decision to rest several key players backfiring.

Last month saw the current champions lose their first home Serie A match for over two years, while in their previous game at the Juventus Stadium they had to come from behind in the second half to beat lowly Benevento by a 2-1 scoreline, so it is fair to say therefore that Juve are not quite at their best.

Paddy Power offer them at 15/8 (2.88) for the win, while Barca can be backed at 6/4 (2.50) and the draw is priced at 12/5 (3.40)

Central to Barca's unbeaten start to the season has been their solid defence, which has conceded just four goals in 12 La Liga matches, and just once in their four European games they have contested.

Meanwhile, Juve's European goals this season have generally come late, with four of their five strikes being scored in the second half, meaning there could be some interest in the price of 4/6 (1.66) for Barca to keep a clean sheet in the opening 45 minutes.

Perhaps more tempting, though, is backing the draw at half time at 11/10 (2.10) which has paid out in both of Juve's home games so far as well as in both of Barca's away games in the competition.
