Jonevret feels Nedbank Cup may be distracting Orlando Pirates

Bucs have, for the better part of the season, occupied the bottom half of the log and their hopes of finishing in top eight took a knock on Wednesday

Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret admits his team already has one eye on the upcoming Nedbank Cup semi-final clash against Golden Arrows.

The Soweto giants could only manage a point away to Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday night, meaning they have collected a single in their last three league games.

“Maybe our focus is a little bit on the cup, even if we are not talking about it,” Jonevret told reporters.

“But for me the attention is on the next game against Ajax and we really have to win our last two league games. The supporters are all talking about the Nedbank Cup. Whenever I’m stopped that is what they want to know about, but it is important to try and win our last two games in the league,” Jonevret said.

On the positive note, the 55-year-old was happy with the way his team played against Celtic and more so their desire to want to win.

He urged his charges to continue on this path in their remaining two league matches.

“I think we showed against Celtic that we can do that. I was happy with the way we played because I think we had five to six really good chances but at the end it’s all about scoring goals,” Jonevret said.
