Jonathan Philippe edging closer to a move to Kaizer Chiefs

Philippe is still training at Naturena and could be in line to land a deal with Amakhosi in the coming days

Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be closing in on the signature of Argentinian forward Jonathan Philippe.

The 29-year-old has been amongst several others training with Amakhosi for the last few weeks with hopes of impressing Chiefs’ coach Steve Komphela.

However, while it was reported earlier this week that trialist Arnaldo Gomes had stopped training with the club, Philippe is still at Naturena and a deal is likely to be struck in the coming days.

Although, Komphela has been desperate to rope in the services of a proven goal scorer, the former Boca Juniors’ player is yet to sign a deal with the club, but there have been suggestions that he could be offered a two-year-deal.

Nonetheless, with Chiefs closing in on Philippe there remains the possibility that he could even feature in this weekend’s Premier’s Cup encounter against Chippa United if a deal is struck in time.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that former Moroka Swallows’ striker Darren Lurie is on the lookout for another club as Chiefs have opted against offering him a deal.
