Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) forward Gabriel Guerra has set two new records for the 2017 season, with his hat-trick against T-Team FC in their Super League (MSL) encounter on Saturday.
In the match at Larkin, which ended in a 3-0 win to the homeside, the Argentine scored all the goals of the match, in the 10th, 30th and 39th minute.
The hat-trick he bagged meant that the 23-year old has now scored in four competitions this season, a fact pointed out by M-League organiser Football Malaysia LLP (FMLLP's) social media.
He has scored in the Premier League (MPL) earlier in the season, for JDT's feeder club JDT II, before he was then promoted to the Super League side earlier in February. He then scored his first ever goal for the Southern Tigers in their 2-0 second round FA Cup victory over Felda United FC, before scoring in the AFC Cup match.
However goals in the MSL took awhile to arrive. Guerra failed to find the back of the net in JDT's 0-0 draw against Selangor and 2-1 defeat to Perak, but when he finally broke his duck he did it in spectacular fashion, by scoring a hat-trick against the Titans, and setting two records simultaneously.
He can be expected to score in his fifth competition later this season, if JDT qualify for the 2017 Malaysia Cup, which will kick off in the second half of the season.
The other record set by him was for scoring a hat-trick each in the MSL and MPL in the same season, as pointed out by a Twitter user Ariff THFC. He earlier scored three goals in JDT II's 4-0 demolition of Perlis, in their round two Premier League match back in January.
Despite having been promoted to JDT only as a quick-fix replacement for misfiring pre-season signing and compatriot Jerónimo Barrales, the former PKNS FC player is starting to cement his reputation as one of the Tigers' key man. Guerra will definitely set more records as the season continues.
