Jackson Irvine to face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup

Australia's Jackson Irvine has a trip to Old Trafford to look forward to next month after his Burton Albion were drawn against Manchester United in England’s Carabao Cup.

Irvine’s Championship outfit overcame Cardiff City 2-1 in Wales this week to secure a place in the last 32, earning a shot at Jose Mourinho’s red-hot Red Devils.

Manchester United are currently top of the Premier League after back-to-back 4-0 wins and will pose a huge challenge for the Socceroo and his teammates.

The draw for the last 32 of the competition was held on Thursday (AEST) with some interesting ties for a host of Aussies.

There could be as many as three Aussies on the pitch at Goldsands Stadium after Brad Smith and Adam Federici’s AFC Bournemouth were pitted against Mat Ryan and Brighton.

Smith played a full game in Bournemouth’s 2-1 win over Birmingham City this week, while Brighton overcame Barnet 1-0.

In-form playmaker Aaron Mooy and his undefeated Huddersfield Town face a trip to fellow top-flight opposition Crystal Palace.

While Mooy’s men are two-from-two in the league, Palace – under new boss Frank de Boer – are still searching for their first points of the season.

National team skipper Mile Jedinak - who is still working his way back from injury for Aston Villa – has a home clash with Middlesbrough, while Bailey Wright will lead his Bristol City side against Stoke City

All ties will be played the week commencing September 18.
