The centre-back is technically gifted enough to play for the Spaniards in the middle of the pitch and has the attitude required to succeed in Europe

Palmeiras star Yerry Mina is capable of becoming a star at Barcelona, says Cuca, who had a great influence on the player moving to Brazil from Santa Fe last year.

Guardiola warns Barcelona doubters

The Colombia international centre-back, 22, is close to agreeing terms with the Catalan side and is likely to join them in the summer – and the Brazilian has backed him to be a hit.

“I have no doubt that he can succeed with Barcelona,” Cuca told Goal. “I don’t know if he’ll go there or not, but the way he is playing for Palmeiras is good enough for him to play at Barcelona or any other great European club.”

Although the defender is very tall, standing just short of two metres, the coach believes he possesses the technical qualities to play in the midfield for the Camp Nou outfit.

“He is a good passer, he is young but he does not like to lose, which is very positive,” Cuca explained. “He is a very good player, very strong in the air.

“As a person away from the field, he is the best possible. He’s very easy to deal with.”

Barcelona's coaching shortlist

The defender came through the ranks at Deportivo Paste before switching to Independiente Santa Fe, but the Brazilian says he cannot take credit for discovering the player’s talents.

“It was actually my brother, Cuquinha, who saw him play in Colombia and scouted him for Palmeiras,” he revealed.

Mina moved to the Brazilian outfit in July of 2016, but his level has been such that it seems that his stay there may not last a year.
