ISL 2017: ATK sign Portuguese striker Jose Egas dos Santos Branco

Two times Indian Super League champions ATK have roped in Portuguese striker Jose Egas dos Santos Branco as their second foreign signing....

Defending India Super League (ISL) champions ATK have officially announced the signing of Portuguese striker Jose Egas dos Santos Branco for the upcoming season.

Nicknamed Zequinha, he has represented Portugal national side in the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2007 and played for clubs like G.D Tourinzense, F.C Penafiel and Gondomar S.C among many. The 30-year-old talented forward from C.D Nacional is all set to scorch the ground this time for ATK with his superb striking capabilities. 

After roping in the Portuguese forward, ATK owner Sanjiv Goenka opined, "I feel extremely happy to have such energy in our team. We are definitely working towards a great start with player like Zequinha coming on board.”

Upon joining the club, Zequinha said: "Kolkata has great spirit when it comes to football. The crowd and its passion gives the drive for fantastic football. The ISL experience will add a new feather to my cap"

The two times ISL champions have an excellent squad to boast this time. They have several big Indian names in their ranks, Debjit Majumder, Ashutosh Mehta, Jayesh Rane, Eugeneson Lyngdoh, Robin Singh to name a few.

Under the tutelage of former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham, the Kolkata side looks ready to defend their title this season. Former Bengaluru FC manager Ashley Westwood will assist Teddy as the technical director of the side.

Zequinha becomes the second foreign player to sign for the side after celebrated Irish striker Robby Keane, who had joined as their marquee player for the season.
