In what promises to be an important week for fans of the northeastern franchise of the Indian Super League (ISL), Nelo Vingada is to hold talks with the NorthEast United FC management regarding his potential contract extension, Goal can confirm.
The former Portugal Under-20 coach landed in Mumbai in the wee hours of Friday and was present at the Cooperage Stadium to witness the I-League clash between Mumbai FC and reigning champions Bengaluru FC on Saturday.
It must be noted that after a memorable start to the season where they led the table for the opening 25 days, once again the club failed to qualify for the play-offs. In fact they are amongst the only two teams in the ISL to have never made the cut for the semis alongside big spenders FC Pune City.
Of the 14 matches last season, The Highlanders registered five victories, three draws and suffered six defeats. Interestingly, their form away from home was disastrous as they could only manage to win once.
Owner John Abraham would hope that his team can get their act together in the fourth season of the ISL as he looks set to confirm the presence of Vingada at the helm of affairs.
