2016 Indian Super League semifinalists Delhi Dynamos have opted not to retain any of their players ahead of the upcoming Indian player draft.

With all other teams retaining players, this move means Delhi Dynamos will enter the draft in the first round itself and will get to pick first alongside the newly inducted Tata Steel-owned franchise.

Many expected the franchise from the Indian capital to retain star defender Anas Edathodika and one more of several other prominent players for the upcoming season but they have decided not to, meaning Delhi have opted to build their Indian contingent entirely from the player draft.

Anas Edathodika, the Kerala-born defender who has seen his stock rise dramatically in the last couple of years following solid performances for the Dynamos in the Indian Super League and Mohun Bagan in the recently concluded I-League season, will now enter the player draft.

Though it is a surprise to see Delhi deciding not retaining the 30-year-old who was voted the 'I-League defender of the year' this time around, they will get choice picks from the draft and it could prove to be a smart move.

Dynamos have recruited former Real Madrid midfielder Miguel Angel Portugal as their new head coach and the Spaniard will be counting on his think tank to plot a strategy to build a competent Indian contingent which is extremely vital in the league this season, given that only five foreigners are allowed in the starting XI.

The GMS group owned team have not reached the finals of the ISL yet, with the semifinals proving to be a stumbling block for them twice.
