The Indian national U16 football team dredged to a famous 2-1 victory over Al Ahly's U16 team, in the India-Egypt Friendship Cup 2017 on Egyptian soil.
In a match that saw kick-off delayed, the Indian colts had a sight at goal in the 5th minute, which saw Salio work the opposition goalkeeper into a neat save. That set the tempo for the Tiger Cubs' foray into the opposition half with Bekey's impressive long-range effort in the 17th minute needing another super save from the opposition 'keeper.
The scoreline wouldn't be kept blank however, as Bekey snared the opener in the 18th minute. The lead however, would last just ten minutes. An infraction by an Indian player in the Blues' box saw the fledgling Egyptian Red Devils draw level on the scoreline with a well taken penalty by Ali, in the 28th minute.
The half-time interval beset on the match with both teams taking a deadlocked scoreline into their dressing rooms.
However, Rohit Danu immediately incremented the Tigers' tally after the break. He capitalized on some slack settling within the Egyptian team's defense to hit home what would be the eventual winner in the 46th minute.
Thereafter, India absorbed the pressure well and nearly trebled their lead in the 80th minute, when Salio's excellent free-kick was barely pushed away by the Al Ahly U16 number one. As the full-time whistle range accross the ptich, the Indian team were greeted with a well deserved victory.
They will now face Smouha Club on April 23, in Cairo.
