Ibrahimovic & Ronaldo in battle to make Euros history

The Sweden and Portugal stars are each looking to become the first player to score in four European Championships, ahead of games against Ireland and Iceland this week

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo have both enjoyed record-breaking domestic seasons with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, respectively, but they are not ready to stop there.

The Swede, fresh from scoring a record 38 league goals in a single campaign, and the Portuguese, now Real Madrid's all-time top scorer, can now become the first player to score in four European Championships.

The pair both have six tournament goals to their name, trailing leader Michel Platini's nine and Alan Shearer's seven, but can make history as early as Monday or Tuesday.

Ibrahimovic will be the focal point of Sweden's attack against Republic of Ireland on Monday before Ronaldo lines up for Portugal against Iceland the following day.

Ibrahimovic netted against Bulgaria and Italy in the Euro 2004 group stage before scoring his first international goal in over two years when scoring against Greece, and then Spain, at Euro 2008.

The Swede added two more in Euro 2012, yet again in the group stage, against Ukraine and what would be the goal of the tournament with a volley against France.

Ronaldo scored his first European Championships goal, and his senior goal for Portugal, in a 2-1 group-stage loss to Greece in 2004 before adding another in the semi-final win over Netherlands.

The Madrid star added another during Euro 2008 - against Czech Republic in the group stage - but again downed the Dutch in 2012 with two goals and another against the Czechs in the quarter-finals.
