Fidelis Ilechukwu has said that he is fully behind the choice of players invited for next month's African Nations Championship qualifiers, despite Chukwuka Onuwa snub.
Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun alongside 28 other players were called by the home-based national team coach, Yusuf Salisu for camping ahead of the double-legged tie against Togo or Benin.
But one of the notable exclusions on the list was mercurial midfielder Onuwa, who again weighed in with an assist for Odey's winner as the Olukoya Boys defeated Wikki Tourists 1-0 on Sunday.
And his coach refused to question the national team handler's decision.
"No, I'm not [disappointed]," Ilechukwu told media. "The reason why I'm not [disappointed] is because I'm a coach.
"If I'm Salisu I still may do the same thing to other people.
"He knows his team, he knows what he wants to do. So fans don’t select team for a coach. The coach knows what he wants."
On the chances of the diminutive attacking midfielder with the home-based Eagles, Ilechukwu said: "Yes it is still open anything can still happen so far he is doing good the coach can still call him.
"He can still call him. It's still open.
"But for now I will never go against the list. I will never because it is football [and] I'm a coach.''
