Defending I-League champions Aizawl FC have announced the signing of defender Lalrozama Fanai for the upcoming season. The 25-year-old defender was a free agent after spending last season with Fateh Hyderabad in the second division of the I-League.

The Aizawl born Fanai has already represented his home club in the 2014-15 season in the second division but was not re-signed when the club gained promotion to the top tier. The defender is a product of the Mohan Bagan-SAIL Academy where he stayed until 2007 before making a switch to Pune.

Fanai made his first senior appearance for the AIFF XI, which would later be renamed to Pailan Arrows in December 2010.

He spent two years at the club before moving on to sign for Mohan Bagan in 2013. Fanai would spend two years at the Kolkata giants making four appearances.

The central defender signed for new entrants Bengaluru F.C for the 2013-14 season of the I-League and made three appearances for the side before returning to Manipur to join Aizawl F.C the following season.

Fanai has represented India in the Under-19 category and was also a part of the Under-23 squad for the Asian Games, 2010.

The Aizawl based club created history last season by winning the I-League in the very first season of their promotion to the top tier. The signing of Fanai will go a long way in further strengthening the core of home based players in for the Mizoram team

After making only a handful of appearances in his previous clubs, the local boy will be hoping to cement a place in the defence of the I-League champions.
