I-League 2017: Bobby Nongbet feels the better side won, Paulo Meneses disagrees

Shillong Lajong coach Bobby Nongbet is happy to get three points against Aizawl FC but he is not thinking about the title now...

Shillong Lajong got the better of Aizawl FC in the North Eastern derby thanks to Redeem Tlang's goal in the 60th minute of the match. It was an otherwise an even contest in Aizawl as both the teams created a similar amount of goal scoring opportunities.

But the coaches had contrasting opinions on whether the deserving side won. While Lajong coach Bobby Nongbet suggested that they were more determined for the three points, Aizawl boss Paulo Meneses termed Lajong's victory 'lucky'.

Nongbet opined, "I think Aizawl FC are a good team and they played well too, but I think we played well right from the first whistle and we were more determined. That is the reason we got three points today."

Meneses said, "Of course not [the deserving side did not win]. The best chance of the match was from Aizawl. Lajong were lucky. Sometimes that can happen."

The Lajong coach whole-heartedly praised Yemen international Aiman Al-Hagri for his performance today. He said, "I feel Aiman played really well.  He created several chances in both the halves which imposed pressure on Aizawl defence. Even the goal which we scored was a part of Aiman’s brilliance inside the box and Redeem Tlang made no mistake to find the back of the net."

On asked if they are a title contender this season, Nongbet replied, "I think its too early now. Maybe by the end of the first leg, it will be ringing in our minds if we can go for the championship. We are working hard to get another three points in our next home fixture against Neroca. Neroca are a good side, they are playing very well so far."

Paulo Meneses spoke about his team's problems in the attacking third, but he also mentioned that they are confident that they can bounce back in the next match. "We will talk and work and improve the play on the final third of the pitch. The whole week we train this. Sometimes we can score, sometimes not. We will surely bounce back. We need to give the best answer now. This team has a very good team spirit."
