Hugo Broos' agent hits out at Safa

Hugo Broos has been left frustrated by Safa's lack of communication despite the Afcon winning coach's interest in the Bafana Bafana job

The South African Football Association (Safa) was expected to announce Shakes Mashaba's successor last week.

However, with Carlos Queiroz ruling himself out of the running, Safa postponed the unveiling of the new coach.

Herve Renard and Hugo Broos were believed to be the frontrunners for the vacant position at Bafana Bafana, while Ruud Krol and Gavin Hunt have also been linked with the vacant position.

Gino Laureyssen, who represents Broos, has confirmed that his client applied for the job weeks ago, but he's frustrated that Safa hasn't returned to them regarding the coach's application.

“It’s almost four weeks since we sent Hugo’s application and I tried to call let’s say 55 times to see if they received the application of Mr Broos,” Laureyssen told EWN Sport.

“Nobody is giving me an answer. So, I don’t know how those people (Safa) are organising South Africa. It’s a little bit like the results of the national team I think," he said.

“I think it’s quite disrespectful to the guy who just won the African Cup of Nations, who is interested to serve your country at reasonable conditions,” said Laureyssen.

Laureyssen said Broos has had offers from other African countries, but said the Cameroon senior national team coach was eager to coach Bafana Bafana.

“We have a lot of possibilities. Mr Broos is asked by almost all countries in Africa and also abroad but South Africa is a wonderful country, it has a lot of good players and he is very eager to do it,” Laureyssen added.

“We were so motivated two or three weeks ago, but now nothing is happening and it is understandable that the motivation goes down.”

“He is ready to go in another task where he can build a new team, where he can play with young players. He can build a team with players who want to play for their country,” concluded Laureyssen.
