Gyan declares himself fit for Afcon qualifier against Ethiopia

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he has fully recovered from the injuries that affected his campaign this season in the United Arab Emirates and now set for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia holding at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.

The 31-year-old joined Al Ahli last year in a season-long loan from Chinese side Shanghai SIPG, but fitness issues has forced him to boast of only 14 starts and six goals thus far.

The Black Stars began preparations on Wednesday for the Ethiopia clash, with Gyan joining the group two days later.

“I had to just pass by [on my first day of arrival] and make some recovery training to get my muscles back and start training with the team. After a long flight I just had to do the training,” Gyan told Graphic Sports.

“Everything is fine now and I'm fit for the game. As I always say, I need to be on the field to just do what I do best.

“The last six games were very good because I saw my fitness coming back. So, it's a good thing for me and for the nation to come back and bang in the goals,” he added.

The Black Stars’ all time top scorer is just a goal away from reaching the 50-goal mark for Ghana after notching 49 goals in 102 appearances.

The team will travel to the United States of America after Ethiopia game for friendly matches against Mexico and USA.
