After bemoaning his side’s lack of cutting edge in the 3-1 Champions League defeat to Monaco, Pep Guardiola will be hoping to for a much improved attacking performance when Manchester City welcome Liverpool to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Having found the back of the net in all four of his Premier League homes games against the Reds, Sergio Aguero is bet365’s 10/3 (4.33) favourite to open the scoring and available at 5/6 (1.83) to merely strike for the seventh time in seven appearances.
However, with those odds looking rather slim, the in-form Leroy Sane could offer better value at 15/8 (2.88) considering he has been on the scoresheet in four of his last six appearances.
Alternatively, Kevin De Bruyne can be backed at 5/2 (3.50) to end his run of nine games without a goal, while Raheem Sterling is priced at 11/4 (3.75) to come back to haunt the club he left in acrimonious circumstances the summer before last.
At the other end of the pitch, Divock Origi is the Reds’ 6/1 (7.00) front runner to break the deadlock and 7/4 (2.75) to strike anytime after filling in for the injured Roberto Firmino in attack against Burnley last time out.
Should the Brazilian recover in time then he is on offer at 15/8 (2.88) to break double figures for the league campaign by scoring at a ground where he struck in last season’s 4-1 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Having scored more goals against the Citizens than against any other Premier League opposition, Phillippe Coutinho could be the better Brazilian to back at 12/5 (3.40), although he has only hit the net once in his last 14 club appearances.
Instead, top scorer Sadio Mane looks like a more sensible choice at 2/1 (3.00) to extend his own fine record against this opposition, having had a hand in four goals in his last three league appearances versus City.
